Pediatric Dentistry

Starting with a child’s first dentist visit, we are dedicated to helping patients build a strong base of oral health knowledge and care so they can live their life with a healthy smile. Our pediatric dentistry at Laurel Dental Associates enjoys seeing young patients because we are happy to have the opportunity to start a patient off with great dental care and education.

Preventive Dental Care

Preventive dental care is a team effort among Dr. Rezaiyan, the patient, and the patient’s parents. The most common concern among young patients and their parents are cavities. Tooth decay is a serious problem that if left untreated can lead to loss of teeth, infection, and pain. Cavity prevention and treatment will be given to each of our young patients at our pediatric dentistry. Our friendly dental hygienists and Dr. Rezaiyan will provide preventive treatments and cleaning, but proper oral maintenance at home paired with a healthy diet is important as well. Be sure to monitor your child’s eating habits. Whatever he or she puts into their body significantly affects their oral health. Foods high in carbohydrates, sugars and starchy can cause bacteria to produce acids that break down teeth.

Common Oral Health Issues for Kids

  • Tooth Decay – This is caused by foods that have large amounts of starches and sugars which will produce acids that eat away at tooth enamel.
  • Gum Disease – a.ka. Periodontal disease, is a serious problem that leads to inflammation of the gums and tooth loss. By simply brushing and flossing gum diseases can be prevented.
  • Bad Breath – This is caused by food particles, bacteria, and plaque in the mouth but once again, regular brushing and flossing can easily take care of this issue.
  • Thumb Sucking – Continuation of this habit can cause issues related to the alignment of teeth.

Teeth Cleaning for Kids

It is recommended that children see a dentist for regular checkups every six months because your child’s teeth are still developing and it is important to start him or her with a good foundation for good oral health. Our professional pediatric dental hygienists perform gentle yet effective cleanings that involve:

  • Plaque removal
  • Tartar removal
  • Teeth polishing
